Hi - Just picked up my copy of Viewpoint (yes, I'm a PUC alumnus) and was immediately drawn to Becky's article! I spent 3 weeks in Gimbie with a team from LLU to work on the first phase of the new wing of the hospital. I was forever moved by my time there. I'm so encouraged to hear the work continue and what to encourage you that there are some more…

Go Renee :) Way to teach those parts of speech. I like your analogy of a costume party; that's what how I used to explain gerunds to grammar contract students. I hope that things go well with the nursing students. It sounds like you did a great job of teaching :D more…

Hey guys I sometimes read your blog as I am moving to Ethiopia and like to hear about it. I have a question that maybe one of you can answer. I will actually be living in Adama (Nazaret) about 2 hrs. south of Addis Ababa and am confused about anti-malaria drugs. We will be living there for at least a yr. and wonder if it is safe to take the drug more…

As soon as I saw the title of this blog, I knew I needed to wait to read it until I had adequate time to focus on it. I'm glad I waited.
Thank you for mourning, Petra. Not only did it change your own perspective, but it changed mine too. more…

As typical, I am misty eyed after reading your blog. Making a difference ‘today’ is what we are asked to do as Christians. Look for the needs and help when, where and however we can. God asks no more of us and I see all of you at Gimbie ever so gallantly doing just this! He has fortunately placed us within the confinements of time and space, wh more…

I remember being shocked at the existence of infanticide in Ethiopia as well; that was something we read about in ancient literature, not modern day life to encounter so closely.
But I love what you said about how each effort you all make matters to the individual you helped. It's true, despite my doubts of it while in Africa. I'm glad more…

I’ve commented on this blog in Glimpses of Gimbie, but have pondered further on your thoughts. By your statement, ‘God’s ways will always be mysterious to us. It is fruitless to try to untangle His providence from human choice and from the forces of nature and of evil in the world’ you attempt to portray the amazing complexity we face in understan more…

It sounds like:
No margin, no mission. That I heard when the TCMC, in Nashville, TN closed down.
I hope that you can find a way to get this to work. I think that there is a possibility of some cottage industries that could help develop some income for the area.

How wonderful that you have been adopted as a sister church by these beautiful people in Redlands! Wouldn't it be great if each mission/hospital overseas could experience the adoption of a 'wealthier', large church here in the US, who prays regularly for them and sends volunteers and donations as able. So glad there is now a "Save-a-Life Fund". more…
